Enchanted Rock: A Dreamy Hike Less than Two Hours from Austin

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is an incredible place to get away, relax, and feel the great outdoors. It’s 17 miles from Fredericksburg, 1 hour and 45 min from Austin, or 1.5 hours from San Antonio. The park is magical and full of trails, wildflowers, and creatures. Your steep climb is rewarded by a jaw-dropping 360-degree view full of pink granite rock that makes you feel like you’re in outer space. One of the most enchanting sights within the park is the vernal pools, their calm surfaces mirroring the the sky above.

  • Make sure to make a reservation online before you go. $8 for ages 13+ & free for kids.

  • Wear shoes with a grip & bring water

  • Dogs are not allowed on this path, but they are on others

  • There’s an ice cream truck at the foot of the trail in case you need something cool to drink or eat.

PRO TIP:

Sunrise hikes are the best because it gets quickly. I suggest you arrive no later than 6:45am. Yhe hike to the top takes about 30 minutes.
